2020 has been somethin' else!

I am so far behind on this blog. I've decided to document only a few things, mostly dealing with COVID 19 outbreak and how it's affected our family. I feel like this might be something that our kids want to read about later on and how our family did while going through it.

besides the sadness of knowing that many were negatively impacted, either health-wise or economically, our family truly enjoyed our spring. everything was cancelled. church, sports, in person school, and chris even had an every-other-day work schedule for a couple weeks. it was such a blessing to SsssLlllllOoooooWwwww down for our family. we love doing church at home. the kids loved doing school online. we started each morning with a devotional and then school work. jack, our early riser, would get up at 5:30-6 to get his school work done so he could spend the day adventuring. when everyone else was done with school work, they'd be off to one of the neighbor's ponds to fish (jack went around and got permission from the neighbors- some said yes, some no).
I loved having time in the evenings. no rushing from A to B to C each night. plus, we never ran out of toilet paper or yeast like many people did! haha

the kids spent time together. l
ike, they actually played TOGETHER.
they baked and did crafts. but mostly they played in the yard.
living on 5 acres has been an incredible blessing throughout this pandemic.

Ellie had to make a "process" video for science. of course she baked a cake!

Ellie also made a cup cake pull apart cake for May the Fourth be with You

and biscuit cinnamon rolls for a YW Wednesday night zoom meeting

oh and churros!

one afternoon we busted out the costume bin and each person took a turn going to the front door so chris could see some funny characters from our doorbell cam while he was at work.

Owen graduated from preschool! (headed to kindergarten in august)

Ellie graduated from intermediate school! (headed to middle school in august for 7th grade)

Charlie graduated from elementary school! (headed to the intermediate school in august for 4th grade)

we are forever grateful to the amazing teachers that persevered through the unknown of online schooling. they were patient. they were supportive. they made mistakes and they improved. and they helped our children as they too learned and improved through mistakes and unknowns.
we are especially grateful for Charlie's teacher, Ms Dexter. she truly was exactly who he needed as he traversed new aspects of his life with epilepsy. we will always have a special place in our hearts for her.

jack got his first job helping out on a farm. friends from the ward are starting up a sunflower farm and jack has been doing odd-jobs for them. mostly pressure washing fence... he hates pressure washing now haha. BUT! he's making money and he really likes that!! plus, he's learned how to drive stick shift and he gets to play with their dogs.

we also have a ward friend with a cow farm. he provides the beef for the schools in our village. we asked him this spring to call us up when a calf was being born because our kids have been fascinated with farm animals lately.
it was pretty magical when we got the call! the kids were thrilled and it was very exciting morning. jack is pretty sure that he wants to be a farmer now :)

jack and Ellie were able to stay with DeLauna as she babysat her grandkids Kate, Abby, and Jack. they loved the experience very much! we picked them up on a Sunday afternoon after 3 days and they needed a serious nap haha.

our spring and summer was definitely different due to the corona virus, but all in all we were ok with it :)

and just because its fun, here are jack's before and after corona haircuts (I forgot to get pics of the others... they got their haircut while jack and Ellie were at DeLauna's house. jack sure was jealous to see Owen and Charlie with short hair haha)
