a birthday, halloween, a birthday

jack is officially a TEENAGER!!!!
his birthday was Oct 23rd and I STILL can't believe it!

jack requested an Oreo cake with realistic deer antlers on top.
these antlers were hands down the hardest food item I've ever created, but we got it done! so glad I tried making them several days in advance cause we definitely had a few flops before getting it right.

all jack wanted was a compound bow. he knew that if he got one that it would be his birthday and Christmas combined because it was very pricey.

chris snuck his small bow for school out of it's case while jack was sleeping and he put the new one in its place. when jack woke up and saw the new bow he said " I had a tear in my eye so im glad you weren't in there when my alarm went off" lol.
he's a good boy with a tender heart.
and now this tender hearted boy has some deadly accurate archery skills!

he's been practicing every day, pulling 45 lbs, from both 20 and 40 yards and he's doing quite well, although he's still waiting for his Robin Hood moment when he splits the knock of another arrow...

chris is a great archer and has been able to help jack a lot. and because of a semester taking archery at BYU-I with Bo, I have enjoyed jack's new bow as well... its just the right size with just the right draw weight for me. its fun to show jack what's up every once in a while ;) plus, its just really fun remembering that 8 am class with Bo. we really made some fun memories together at that stage of our lives that I will always treasure.

our halloween was fantastic!
we kicked things off with the arrival of Owen's costume at the beginning of October and he enjoyed it all month long!

he and Charlie both had a costume parade at their schools which were very fun!

can you spy spidey?

Charlie was Harry Potter for the school parade

the ward party was also fun this year. chris made a KILLER buffalo chicken jalapeƱo popper dip that was out of this world! Ellie won the costume contest for most spooky as a "zombie bride" even though she thought she was a ghost lol! they announced it and she sat there looking around to see who the zombie bride was and was shocked when they brought the prize to her haha!

Owen as Into the Spider-Verse Spider Man

Charlie as a ninja

Jack as an escaped convict

Ellie as a ghost
"aka zombie bride"

we live for halloween night!!!

this year's dinner was pretty rushed because the weather was crappy and Granville wanted it to start at 5:30 and be done by 7. with the kids getting off the bus after 4, that didn't leave much time for dinner and costume prep!
so we rushed through our dinner of ravioli in pumpkin sauce, spinach salad with a maple dijon vinaigrette, and mummy dogs. always have to have mummy dogs!

the kids decided they all wanted to use the cool zombie tattoos that Ellie picked out, so we had three zombies. Charlie wasn't really feeling it on halloween. pretty sure his meds were playing with him. so he was Grumpy Charlie for halloween. but pretty quick his frown turned into smiles and lots of laughter.

 they scored big time!

the rain, wind, and freezing temps didn't stop us! the kids each had at least 5 lbs and a couple ended up with over 6 lbs. we still have a shelf in the kitchen filled with bags of candy... we will probably donate it to the lounge at daddy's work pretty soon.

on November 7th, our spunky little O turned 5!!!

we went to the library to play in the morning and while there we technically had our first snow, although it melted before touching the ground.

he opened gifts and cards from aunts & uncles and grandparents and he was so excited!

when dad got home, Owen opened his gift from us, which was...
 a bow!
guess when that's all you hear your big brother talk about and see him do, you catch the bug too!

when he opened his present, he was so disappointed to see a towel cause he had convinced himself it was a bow. he didn't realize the towel was wrapped around the bow haha. it was pretty cute to see his emotions start out so high, plummet so low, and jump back up so quickly!

that evening, Amy Tyler and kiddos joined us for a couple rounds of bowling!
Owen and Mason are such good buddies, it warms my heart every time they are together!

they decided their bowling names would be Chuckles (Owen) and Joey (Mason)! they are so funny together!

Owen wanted a vanilla cake with Nutella frosting, yum!

Owen definitely has learned from jack that he needs to practice if he wants to be good. the morning after his birthday he hopped out of bed, grabbed his bow and his jacket, threw on boots and went out to the garage to practice in his long johns!

makes me so happy to see jack help him and teach him. Jack made Owen a little target and he sets his up next to his and they practice together sometimes after jack gets home from school.
