maybe its the fact that its winter right now, or maybe its because im about to send out Christmas cards with a link to the ol' bloggity blog that hasn't been updated in half a year. but either way, I've got summer on my mind! and boy did we have a great summer! here's a recap:
mid July we sent jack off to soccer camp at BYU in Provo. that meant his first solo flight, crashing at his cousin Hunter's apartment for a weekend, and then spending a whole week with his cousin Daniel (who drove down from Idaho Falls with Aunt Cathy) in the dorms while attending camp. it was surprisingly sad around our house without him here, but to say he had the time of his life would be an understatement! he loved going to camp, playing soccer all day everyday, hanging out with cousins and seeing aunts and uncles who live in Utah, hiking the Y for the first time, going to dances, riding the shuttle to IF for the first time, and, lets be honest here, meeting girls :)
at the end of the week, the rest of us made the drive out to Idaho. whew! that was a LOOOOOOONG day and a half. we drove pretty much straight through, only stopping for a few hours at a hotel for a quick sleep. we also made a quick stop at Far West, which Jack was sad to miss. but we would be traveling home a different route and wanted to make sure the rest of us saw it while we could. our family has really enjoyed studying D&C this year, so this was a neat stop.
these car top carriers have been super hard to find since the pandemic since so many people are taking road trips now instead of flying, but we found one and it was a lifesaver, especially on the journey home.
we got in super late on a Saturday and were able to make it to cousin Nathan's missionary homecoming talk!
one awesome blessing from this trip is that Bo and Larissa's family moved to IF last thanksgiving and are only a 5 minute drive from Bart and Janie. so we were able to spend lots of time with both sides of the family! my dad was even in town helping with Bo's basement, so we got to visit with him too!
it'll take me a few weeks to recap all we did and I don't have the time to do that unfortunately. so here are pictures from activities including brower family get togethers, visits with Cathy and bo's families to Rigby lake, chris went on a photography trip with Cory and Bart, and all the other stuff one does on a family trip to Idaho Falls!
summertime in Idaho means HUCKLEBERRIES!
and bikerides
and crawfishing
grandpa shared The Beast with the boys before going to the driving range
Ellie and I spent time cooking spaghetti sauce with grandma and cathy. cathy is a master gardener and master cook, the best combo!
grandpa Dave was on a mission to get the basement finished so he didn't take too many breaks while we were there. but he did make sure we had time to try out his newest contraption, a little motorized fishing platform that sits on a couple kayaks. the kids loved it!
grandma Janie has a little praying mantis friend that hung out in her beautiful planter paradise.
each morning the kids would help grandpa bart pick berries in the backyard!
Reed took chris, jack, and Everett out to his family farm in Bone one morning and taught them how to drive a real tractor. I say "real" because Jack has driven tractors while working on the farm in the summers here in Ohio, but this thing was three times the tractor that jack is used to haha!
Jack did pretty well!
