spring soccer 2018

spring soccer is underway and it has been a slow start! we have had so, so, so much rain. the fields are constantly in a state of puddles or sloshy mush. needless to say, games have been pushed back or cancelled and our crew is going a bit stir crazy. Charlie has had a few practices and one game, Owen had his first game last Thursday, and Jack and Ellie are chomping at the bit to play their first game tonight. they've had several practices and are ready for a game.

I love this picture of char, with his tan line from his glasses :)

even if the kids aren't the ones at practice or a game, everyone is still at the fields, playing with other watching siblings and having a good time.

Owen had a great first game! his team doesn't have a coach. unfortunately Chris's schedule on Thursday evenings doesn't look good for the next month and a half or else he would've done it. because he was there for Owen's first game I asked him to step up and coach it because none of the other kid's parents would. he did good wrangling 7-8 three year olds, most of which were either in tears the whole time or off in their own little world haha!

here is Owen scoring his first goal of the night. he has been watching the other kids for so long I guess I shouldn't be too surprised that he actually knew what to do. but it was still surprising to see him control the ball so well. very proud family cheering him on!

besides soccer, Chris has started playing church softball on Tuesdays. so after soccer and cub scouts, he zooms over to Van Buren to play ball with the elders quorum against the local baptist churches. its so much fun and the nights I feel like dealing with a late bedtime and all that entails the following day, the kids and I go and cheer him on. he's a super star and plays with everything he's got... which means he's pretty sore the next few days lol! somehow we are getting older.

the older kids have wanted sleep masks for a very long time (thanks to the movie Matilda) so the easter bunny brought these panda sleep masks and the kids wear them every night! even Owen will wear his although it usually just sits on his forehead instead of over his eyes.

Charlie has been writing a series of stories for class and they have been so funny to read. they are all about what would happen if two different animals had a battle. this particular essay was about a battle between a king cobra and a hornet. he's developed so much this school year in his writing abilities and it's made me so happy for him. he enjoys it now where before it was like pulling teeth.

and Ellie had fun a couple Sunday's ago with her little brothers. I guess she should still be able to do hair even if she doesn't have any sisters, right?!
