fall sports 2020

after all sports were cancelled in the spring, we had our fingers crossed that fall sports wouldn't be cancelled too. after pushing the season start date back a couple times, we were so excited when our rec district announced that sports would continue, although they made sure to let us know that things could be cancelled at any time.

Owen and Charlie played soccer on the rec teams, Ellie participated in her first year of middle school cross country and jack played his last fall season of middle school soccer.

it was a busy, but very rewarding season for each kiddo, and for chris and me as well!

at Ellie's first meet, Owen met his favorite type of dog in real life! her name is Fiona and Owen was in love.

cross country was brutal.
Ellie spent all summer devoting 3-4 early mornings a week to practice and then 4 days a week after school once it started in the fall. her legs ached. she was tired. at times, she down right hated it.
but!
she pushed through!
and not only did she push through, but she made the varsity middle school team. I can't explain what its like to watch her run. I've always wanted to be a runner and im just not. so to see her push through the challenges and EXCEL has just been so amazing to me as her mom. I got teary eyed at every single race. we are so proud of her for a season well raced.

Charlie played goalie a few times and had some amazing stops!
watching your child play goalie once they enter around third or fourth grade is soooo incredibly nerve-racking! I hate that pressure! luckily, it didn't phase Charlie too much so if he let one or two in the goal he was able to let it go and be ready for the next shot.

post race fuel of choice: Culver's

we had some really cold games and races. I mean, really cold!

one of the parents took pics of the xcountry team the whole season and compiled an awesome book at the end for each runner. in the back he included pics of each runner running from a villain. it is hilarious!

jack had a phenomenal season!
his team didn't have a coach until a couple days beforehand. his old lacrosse coach stepped up and volunteered to coach even though he and his son had never played. jack loves coach bob! they work well together and bob really let jack step in as team captain. this kid thrives on soccer. when I used to hear parents say that their kid eats, sleeps, and lives their sport, I totally thought they were full of it. but that's jack.

chuck is definitely a defensive player and watching his long limbs on the field is awesome.

Owen... he's a mini jack

Granville middle and high school country teams did amazing this year. they placed first or second at state, all across the board! Ellie's team placed second. we are so proud that she was invited to compete with the team at state. she was nervous and felt a little out of place being one of the younger girls, but she held her own and set a PR! 14:47 for two miles.

Yay! I loved reading and catching up on your busy fall! My sophie ran cross country this season too. Such a great sport for them!
